247: Life-Purpose

Hi, I’m back here again, writing my next “blog post,” and I hope it’s as soothing as the last few times, just putting down a few words.

In recent weeks, I’ve been deeply engaged in contemplating where I want to go in life and what I want to spend the majority of my time doing. (This primarily concerns my professional path.) I haven’t quite found an answer to that yet. However, I have found ways to possibly get closer to an answer.

So, as always, let’s start with 2 tasks, 4 quotes, and 7 insights.

2 Tasks:

The topic of “purpose” and meaning in life actually concerns all people; some think more deeply about it, while others let their subconscious guide them through life without actively thinking about it. But all people seek or act accordingly. And to consciously find orientation, I have the following tasks for you:

  1. The first task is quite simple: Spend less time in front of screens, i.e., actively avoid your phone, television, computer, or iPad. This will help you generate extremely clear and free thoughts.
  2. The second task is somewhat based on the first. Specifically, mentally immerse yourself in moments and activities that made you happy in your past, especially in your childhood. Based on that, consider which possible activities could reproduce those activities, and this could give you a clue about your “purpose.”

4 Quotes:

I started this year with the following books: “Meditations” (Marcus Aurelius) & “Atomic Habits” (James Clear). I highly recommend both books, and in the next newsletter, I will share my favorite quotes from these 2 books here:

  1. “The most practical way to change who you are is to change what you do” (p.38 Atomic Habits)
  2. “The focus should always be on becoming that type of person, not getting a particular outcome” (p.40 Atomic Habits)
  3. “At the break of the day, when you are reluctant to get up, have this thought ready to mind: ‘I am getting up for a man’s work. Do I still resent it, if I am going out to do what I was born for, the purpose for which I was brought into the world? Or was I created to wrap myself in blankets and keep warm?'” (Meditations Book Four 5 p.49)
  4. “Souls are Dyed by thoughts.” (Meditations Book Four 5 p.57)

7 Insights:

  1. When you set a goal, for example, to do a bit of exercise every day or to eat healthily, make sure you never break your resolutions twice in a row. (from Atomic Habits)
  2. The best revenge is not to become like your enemy (from Meditations)
  3. You must find love for boredom and practice things you are already good at over and over again to truly succeed in a specific area. (from Atomic Habits)
  4. Find your happiness in small things (from life)
  5. Express your opinion openly and confidently and communicate clearly. (from life)
  6. If you really want something, then take action for it (Atomic Habits)
  7. When things stress you out and push you to your mental limits, try to come back to yourself. Don’t stay outside of your rhythm for too long. (Meditations)

Today, I wasn’t quite in the flow while writing, and the insights and quotes felt somewhat overwhelming to me. It’s difficult to remember everything you read and like, but it’s also okay. My tip for truly internalizing things you like is repetition.

That’s it from me until next time!
